Southend gallery online

well it turned out to be a brilliant day to stand a mile out in the Thames, got plenty of shots of the pier and its quite understandable pyro-paranoia as well as some nice sundown shots of nearby Leigh-on-sea and the mudflats that make the estuary such a draw for wading birds and even geese strangely enough.

I cant work out if the pier is simply a relic from days past or the place to be in the modern day. It almost feels like a black and white relic of the good old days rather than a modern feature of the Essex coast but the recent fire has started to change things with modern installations and it's easy to forget that actually the pier is an important place for the shipping that runs up and down the Thames, it provides a place for the RNLI to keep the waters safe as well as a station to blurt out warnings and the fog horn.

It's a nice place to visit but a warm tea is essential for keeping the lips from freezing up!

Photo trip - Southend Jan 30th

Well 'tis the night before Christmas... Well not quite, but I'm off for a trip to Southend tomorrow with the camera and various add-ons. Hoping to get some shots of the boats at Leigh and perhaps the pier or the mudflats at sundown.

And as I'm sure you have noticed the website has had an overhaul, let me know what you think. I'm hoping to add a comment system to the galleries when I get time to code it up so this layout gives me much more space to work with.

Good times.

Looking into the past

Looking into the past is a flickr pool with a difference. Taking a photo of a photo is generally a dumb idea unless you are digitalising an old print, but when that old photo is held in front of its modern backdrop you get a weird sense of peeling back the layers of time and interlacing the modern world with the good old days.

Take a look and see what I mean, it's an interesting idea!

Amazing landscapes... Inside his house?

Take a look at these photos. Made entirely out of household goods like paprika, steel wool and grout this guy has actually made some amazing landscape photos. I cant find the set up he used but presumably a macro lens and a couple of flash units to give a brilliant perspective on the tiny, artificial landscapes.

Good times.
